You know those moments in time that change your life?
I had a MAJOR one when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.
My name is Helen Bairstow and despite having just 10% chance of survival I beat it. Luckily I was extremely healthy BEFORE I began the chemotherapy, possibly the reason I survived! So this event is to inspire, motivate or “kick you up the bum” to DO something about improving your health. Come along to this event on Monday February 11 and you’ll also be helping another. ALL money goes to Ally Ryan – a Cairns mum of 2 fighting a similar cancer to mine – this money will help her pay for natural therapies – the things not covered by even the best medical insurance. Believe me I know how expensive it is – you should see my credit card statements! Let’s not let Ally have to deal with that too. She’s already had to deal with a hip replacement and a mastectomy. (Funny, I think I’m ‘lucky’ because I only had a fractured spine, not a hip replacement!)
Pictured above left is Alison with her little girl Grace. Middle is a photo of Elliot and I during my treatment BUT the picture right is me NOW – celebrating life with my girl friends … woo hoo!
Help Ally (and yourself) by learning from my story …
When I was first diagnosed in November 2010 I remember being in Sydney North Shore Hospital (I’m a Cairns girl but that’s where we were when diagnosed – yep the diagnosis happened during a round Australia trip of a life time!). I was talking with Roger (my amazing hubbie) about who could help us? We sent an email to our friend Jennifer Jefferies who is a naturopath.
Jennifer flew from Brisbane and worked tirelessly with Roger to develop a ‘plan’. Roger then filled my hospital room with all this healthy stuff, and I remember thinking…“What if people did all this (healthy stuff) before they get sick. How great would they feel?” So … don’t wait for the big C to come along before you get healthy – do it now!
As a reminder of how far I have come here is a photo of me having chemo (yes I was high on drugs – why else would I be THAT happy about poison being injected into my arm and being bald!). The photo of Roger and Elliot asleep in the hospital Christmas eve still makes my ears tear up. And my angel, Leanda. Words cannot express the thanks for how much she did for me.
Some more (especially cute and funny) photos at the bottom too…
Let’s use what I went through to maximise life! … your life!
Jennifer Jefferies is coming to Cairns to present an information seminar “Stay Young at Any Age”. Here are details…
“Stay Young at Any Age” Monday 11th February
Two sessions – 12 noon and 2pm at the Cairns City Library
Presented by Naturopath Jennifer Jefferies, International Author and Keynote Speaker (and friend of Helen)
You probably already know that our environment is becoming more toxic and more polluted – exposing your already stressed body to many harmful impurities every day – from the chemicals in your cosmetic, toiletries and household cleaning products – to the fumes and poisons in the air you breather – the pesticides and herbicides on your fruit and vegetables – or the flavourings, colourings and preservatives in your food and drink.
Studies have even shown that “good” foods you buy at the supermarket today lack the essential nutrients we used to find in food bought 50 years ago – and you’re missing the vital trace minerals you need each and every day for healthy cell regenerations!
What do you think this might be doing to your biological age? Scroll down to see Helen’s biological age vs. chronological age and her before and after blood photos.
Fortunately new research says cleansing impurities from our bodies – and replenishing ourselves daily with high quality essential nutrients – can not only dramatically improve your health and well-being, but can also slow down your body’s ageing process – helping you to stay younger, longer. Want to know more?
At this one hour information seminar you’ll learn:
- What you can do right now to naturally slow the ageing process and literally stay young, at any age.
- How correct supplementation, cleansing and meal replacement can assist you with weight-loss, promote lean muscle growth, and improve your body’s performance and recovery.
- About a company who’s leading the world in scientific research into youthful ageing – and how you can leverage it to not only improve your health, but also your finance.
- About the “Healthy Helen” online community – it’s a secret group on Facebook – a group of people wanting the same goal…more health. Extreme health! A place where you can get support, and give support while you get healthy. Start a 30 Day Nutritional Cleansing Program and you’re automatically a member.

Which do you think is the BEFORE and which is the AFTER?
If I can achieve this with cancer in my body … what could you do?
As promised saving the funniest (and cutest) to the last .
L to R: OK so I’m going to lose it, might as well get a head start so Roger arranged for a hairdresser to come into the hospital. Elliot’s solution to my hair falling all over the place – vacuum my head! The best therapy – Milly! (Notice we are back in our house in Cairns with no furniture – that’s a deck chair – but we bought a puppy!)
He’s thinking “Got a live one here!” Again the drugs – who else takes a happy snap of themselves having radiation treatment.
I was complaining about my hair legs (be careful what you wish for) so my friends Sandy and Alexandra fixed me up with a bonus ‘mani’ while Leanda did the bravest thing ever … took a 5 year old and 6 year old touring around Sydney for two weeks! (We didn’t want Elliot hanging around the hospital all day so we on an adventures with Lucy)
And boy … did we have some laughs. My friends were amazing. I remember not being able to sleep and calling Sally at 2am and she just chatted with me. (Can you believe it? They are still my friends!)
And how gorgeous is this pic?- my brother, my dad and I all with the same hairstyles! let me introduce you to Mr Pillpoppy – oh the things I did to keep myself amused and mind of what was really happening …
Enough mucking around … have you booked yet for the seminar? This may look fun (I’m off the drugs now) but you don’t want to go through it – trust me.
Go on, make your pledge and I will see you on the 11th if not before …
PS: iPledg is an all or nothing program. If we reach our target of $1000 it’s all on. If not, you won’t be charged a cent!
One more thing … You know putting this together has been very therapeutic for me. Everyone gave me so much attention but I share a secret with you. It was easy for me. But not for Roger. He IS the definition of a rock. Check out the protective way he is holding me in the photo below. Thank you my darling for loving so much that you just wasn’t going to let me die. My goal now is make your life as happy as possible AND remain healthy (and not work myself to death – learnt the lesson – no more Mac trucks needed here).
How does it get better than this?
Thank you for taking the time to read all the way to the end. Take the time today to tell the people you care about that you love them. You just never know …
** Note – this successful campaign was ported over from iPledg 2.0. Whilst there were a large number of backers who assisted the campaign in reaching its target, their number and details are not shown here
