Bona’s story is one of incredible inspiration. It’s the fight for survival of not just one little elephant, but an entire species.
Bona has become the face of the bigger issues her species are facing. Sadly, Bona was a victim of the two main factors leading to the rapid decline in the population of Sumatran elephants; deforestation and human-elephant conflict. In 2012, the Sumatran elephant status was changed from “Endangered” to “Critically Endangered” because half of its population has been lost in one generation. Unless urgent and effective conservation action is taken these magnificent animals are likely to go extinct within our lifetime. And Team Bona want to help turn this around. Bona has become a wonderful ambassador for her species, and Team Bona continue to share her story as a way to educate the general public about the vulnerability of her species.
Our goal is to continue to work with the future generation. We want to continue our work with the children of Sumatra and here in Australia to mobilise change and ensure that the future of our planet is one where humans and elephants can live in harmony.
There are a number of issues that the Sumatran elephants are facing and we are determined to bring these to the attention of the local and international community. In order to do this we need your help. The funds raised will be used for the following:
- Educational school and community visits
- Creation of educational booklets and resources
- Printing of educational booklets and resources
- Development of cross-community collaboration projects
- Development of conservation-based school projects and incentives
Your support would be greatly appreciated and you will receive an appropriate reward for your contribution. All the pledges are named after one of the very special elephants that live at the Elephant Conservation.
Our tipping point for this project is $2,000, with that we will be able to:
- Create educational booklets and resources
- Print educational booklets and resources
Thank you from all of us at Team Bona and most importantly the little girl herself.
